📊 MENA Tech Updates

We’ve got a lot of positive Web3 news this week. Mastercard is bringing decentralized payment to UAE while Tokinvest got an authorization to digitalize real world assets.

First Licence in DMCC (Dubai) given to Tokinvest to tokenize real estate investment

Tokinvest, a marketplace for real-world asset (RWA) investing, has received a full market license from the Dubai Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA). This makes Tokinvest the first company within Dubai’s DMCC Free Zone to obtain an operational VARA license. The license allows Tokinvest to operate as a virtual asset broker-dealer, serving retail, qualified, and institutional investors in and from Dubai.

Why it’s important:

  • Regulatory Milestone: This achievement underscores Dubai's progressive regulatory framework, which supports innovation and secure operations in the crypto space.

  • Market Accessibility: Tokinvest's platform democratizes access to prestigious assets through fractional investments, enhancing liquidity and investment opportunities.

  • Blockchain Integration: Leveraging blockchain technology, Tokinvest provides a seamless, secure, and efficient platform for fractionalizing real-world assets.

The authorization paves the way to the generalization of blockchain use to make expensive real world assets accessible to everyone while ensuring transparency.

DAMAC wants to tokenize $1bn in real-world assets

Speaking of real world assets. DAMAC Group has partnered with blockchain firm MANTRA to tokenize $1 billion in real-world assets (RWAs) in the Middle East. This collaboration aims to drive the adoption of blockchain technology, enabling fractional ownership and tokenized real estate investment opportunities.

Highlights

  • Token-Based Financing: Focus on real estate, hospitality, data centers, and other critical sectors.

  • Minimum Value: Targeting assets with a minimum value of $1 billion.

  • Blockchain Integration: Assets will be available on MANTRA Chain in early 2025, enhancing transparency, security, and accessibility.

Mastercard simplifies cryptocurenncy usage in UAE for everyone

Mastercard has introduced its Crypto Credential solution to the UAE and Kazakhstan, marking its debut in the EEMEA region. This solution allows users to send and receive cryptocurrencies using simple aliases instead of complex blockchain addresses, ensuring transactions proceed only when the recipient’s wallet supports the transferred asset.

Highlights

  • Enhanced Security & User experience: The system reduces the risk of failed or lost transactions by verifying users and ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks.

  • Global Expansion: The initiative is part of Mastercard's broader strategy to increase trust in blockchain technology and transform digital asset interactions.

  • Future Applications: Mastercard plans to expand Crypto Credential’s applications to NFTs, ticketing, and other payment solutions.
